From the earliest days of the Nazi Party, the city of Nürnberg played a central role in hosting Nazi Party Days, the annual gathering of the Party faithful in celebration of their success. After the Nazis came to power in Germany, Adolf Hitler personally undertook the construction of enormous, permanent facilities on a large meadow (the Zeppelinwiese) on the southeast edge of the city. Among the most impressive structures completed on the Reichsparteitaggelände was the gigantic limestone Ehrentribune or honor reviewing stand featuring two wings of enormous Nazi banners on both sides of the largest swastika wreath ever manufactured. Inside, there were huge halls with gold mosaic swastika ceilings and other rooms for the use of Hitler and the Party leadership.
This exceptionally well-made plaque features the meticulous artwork of American artist Robert Wilson, laser engraved on an 8-1/2 x 11 inch piece of oak wood. It depicts the back side and main entrance of the Ehrentribune beneath an actual black iron doorknob from one of the interior doors inside the building. The back of the plaque has a comprehensive signed and dated Certificate of Authenticity attached to it.
