This is a very rare, absolutely original 78 year old Blanket, Wool, White (Medical) in beautiful New-Old-Stock unused condition. It was made in 1944 of 100% white virgin wool for the Medical Department (M.D.) of the U.S. Army and is so marked in maroon letters, and it has a wide burgundy stripe near each end and burgundy binding at each end.
The size of this thick, heavy blanket is 67 inches wide by 91 inches long and it weighs just under 5 pounds. In the lower left corner of the back side is the original off-white cloth manufacturing label which describes the blanket as being Medical Item No. 71580 U.S. Army Spec. 8-IIIA Type II made by CHATHAM MANUFACTURING CO. Dated 7-15-44 on contract CONT. W-36-030-QM-7230 Phila. Q.M. Depot.

As you can see in our photos, the blanket is in unused condition. It has never been dirty or laundered, and as a matter of fact we do not believe it was ever unfolded until we unfolded it recently.
There are no moth holes anywhere in the blanket but there are a few tiny spots that we suspect are “napping” where an 1/8 inch diameter part of the fuzziest layer of the top surface of the fabric is missing. That’s it! There are no other defects in this 78 year old World War II US Army blanket.
